And a very special thank you to the chefs and students of the Great Lakes Culinary Institute for the heart, skill, and care that went into tonight’s dinner.
My own culinary journey in Michigan began in 1981, when I opened The Inn Season Café as its founding chef and later owner.
It opened as a farm-to-table restaurant in 1981, unheard of at the time. From the very beginning, we worked hand-in-hand with local organic farmers—people just like those who supplied the ingredients you’ll taste tonight. We not only supported local growers, they were also a foundational part of our community. A foundation for great food, lasting friendships and good health.
That tradition has continued for more than forty years, and this evening carries that same spirit forward,. Reminding us of the tireless dedication of those who work the land and the importance of supporting them.
Tonight is about what truly counts—
Food as nourishment, food as connection, food as celebration.
It’s something we all need, and something best shared—especially on a night like this.
Our benefactors this evening reflect that spirit of giving and community:
Leelanau Christian Neighbors
Loaves 2 Fishes
Project Feed the Kids
Each of these organizations provides food, hope, and dignity to people across our Michigan communities.
Please join me in recognizing them for the work they do every single day.
And finally, from my heart—
Thank you all for being here,
for supporting this vision,
and for joining us in a celebration that brings together the very best of Michigan’s chefs, farmers, and food lovers.
Enjoy every bite, every conversation, and every glass raised tonight
Bon appétit, and thank you.
